Project Insomnia

Project Insomnia is many things, but in this context it is simply a "braindump" of whatever I happen to be thinking/reading/watching/doing at the moment. Parental guidance suggested.

4CBU106

Attention: Asshole in the gray Audi A4, California plate 4CBU106, did you think I wouldn't notice that you clipped my drivers side mirror as you sped past me going the wrong direction in the Town & Country parking lot? Did you in turn not notice that I turned around, followed you and snapped a pic of your license plate as you zipped through yellow lights and Pole-Positioned your way through traffic on Sand Hill?

As it turns out, you didn't do any damage--not that you care, I'm sure--so I won't pursue this any further except for this post which will turn up any time someone searches for your license plate number. Asshole.

Has anyone ever heard of Mike Gravel?

Neither have I. Shades of Admiral Stockdale, perhaps.

Debate moderator Brian Williams has said several times that they're out of time for various segments and that the debate producers were not expecting the candidates to answer their questions as extensively as they are. If nothing else, the candidates are all politicians--what else were the producers thinking? Perhaps a little less structure to allow the debaters to finish their sentences rather than cutting them off.

The first Democratic debate of '08

I came home from work early today (tele-working is great) to watch the first Democratic Presidential debates on MSNBC. Brian Williams is hosting, and all thirty-seven declared Democratic candidates are present at this debate at the University of South Carolina. This is, as far as I know, the earliest in the election cycle that an official debate has been held, and I find it interesting that it effectively limits the field to those candidates who have declared and are present; it would be difficult, to say the least, for someone to join the campaign having missed the first big debate.

I come in to this debate without a clear idea of a favorite candidate; my vote in November '08 is predetermined, but right now I need to know who best can beat whomever the Republicans put up. And that's an interesting question in itself: A few months ago, I would have laid money on John McCain being the runaway favorite, but with his recent missteps that's seeming less likely. Guiliani is coming on strong, but has way too many skeletons to get very far.

So I'm watching the debate, and may update as it proceeds.

Ben & Jerry’s makes tax day better

This year's Free Cone Day will be on April 17th, which is also the '07 IRS tax filing date. Trust Ben & Jerry’s to make tax day bearable:
On Tuesday April 17th from 12pm until 8pm participating Ben & Jerry’s scoop shops around the world will be hosting Ben & Jerry’s Annual Free Cone Day.
They usually request a charitable donation but it's not required. The B&J Web site shows the locations of all of their scoop shops.
