Project Insomnia

Project Insomnia is many things, but in this context it is simply a "braindump" of whatever I happen to be thinking/reading/watching/doing at the moment. Parental guidance suggested.

How I spent my weekend

Picked up Deathly Hallows on Saturday afternoon (I'd reserved it at Borders a month ago) and finished it Sunday night. I could have saved so much time if only I'd found Potterdammerung first:
A small village in rural England, the sort of place that has an unbelievably high murder rate and unaccountably inept local cops who must rely on sweet old ladies to solve crimes. Two men materialize in front of the gate of a palatial estate.

Yaxley: HAI I IZ DEATHEATER NOT APPEARING IN PREVIOUS BOOKS. YOU HAS NEWS?

Snape: Of course I have news. I'm an evil genius of unaccountable intelligence.

YAXLEY: THAT IZ GOOD. WE B FRENDS?

Snape: Come on, Lord Voldiething is waiting.

Many many spoilers, obviously, plus adult language probably unsuitable for first-years.

Sea Otters? See Otters!

I don't think I've posted here about my newest "cute video" blog, See Otters. As the title suggests, See Otters features video clips from around the Internets of otters, otters and more otters. It's mostly inspired by the Monterey Bay Aquarium's "Wild About Otters" exhibit, which we hope to see this summer. Go check it out!

New Restaurant Reviews

I've posted reviews of the restaurants we visited during our Disneyland trip last weekend in Restaurant Reviews:

Lucky us

Bay Area shoppers get Lucky with return of markets' name:
After an eight-year absence, Lucky supermarkets are returning to the Bay Area.

They won't be new stores, built from scratch. Instead, the area's 72 Albertsons grocery stores will switch names, adopting the Lucky brand.

The change marks the latest twist in the stores' long and complicated history.
I realize they're all owned by the same parent company, but I always liked Lucky much more than Albertson's. The Albertson's closest to us was disgusting and closed last year, but we never went there anyway, prefering Safeway. If a Lucky opened up nearer than the Safeway, we'd definitely shop there.

Esmeralda's Prophecy for me

You have had a lot of trouble, for which others are largely responsible, but you are now reaching a point when you will be able by your own efforts, to control your own affairs. You are not easily understood, as you keep much to yourself. You are fond of fine arts and like to be alone a great deal. You sometimes have a desire to destroy things, especially in your young days, for which you are sorry afterward. Be careful when the figure 7 appears on any money transaction, and keep your eyes open to some of your "would be" friends.

One of your lucky numbers is 7.

I'm also worth more when lit.

Welcome to the Magic Kingdom of Disneyland

There are several ways to visit this happy place; today we're doing the "fly to LAX / borrow Jen's grandmother's car / drive to Anaheim / spend the afternoon and evening at the park" thing.
Tomorrow morning we'll try breakfast at Cafe Orleans, and tomorrow night we're meeting two out of three of The Abominables for dinner at Tortilla Jo's Cantina.
I'm not sure what we have planned for Monday, but Tuesday is Disneyland's 52nd birthday so we'll be at the park early and stay until it's time to fly home.
Staying at the Hyatt Regency a mile or so down Harbor on a travel agent rate. It's a nice place but way too pricey if we were paying anywhere close to rack. And they want $9.99 a day for Internet access!
