Isadore Berson

I barely knew my great-uncle Isadore Berson, having only met him a few times–though he did send us a generous wedding gift–but we did inherit three of his large nature prints when my grandmother Sylvia passed away a few years ago. I just hung one of them in our newly-completed SunPorch and thought I might Google Uncle Izzy to see if any of his work was online. I was certainly surprised and pleased to find this small collection on Flickr–I don’t know Crick3 but I am glad to see that family members asked him to scan and post some of Uncle Izzy’s work.

Army Basic Training at Fort Jackson, SC made me wish I was somewhere, anywhere else

October – December, 1989.

Eight weeks of blatant, obvious psychological abuse that I still couldn't avoid. Eight weeks of getting up at 4:00 AM every day except Sundays when we could sleep in 'til 5:00. Eight weeks of being the laughingstock of the platoon, mostly because the unimaginitive dolts thought a last name of "Rich" was one huge joke. Eight weeks of high school P.E. class only instead of one hour a day it was 24/7.

Don’t say ‘Hate’ around me

Hate
It's such a strong word and it's thrown around entirely too much and too freely. "Hate" is a state of red-faced rage and fury and there just isn't anything that I can honestly say makes me feel that way. I wish it wasn't such an easy shorthand word for "this bugs me".

I am a homeowner, therefore I am necessarily a handyman

The most impressive thing we've built is probably our bed, which was hacked together from two MALM beds and two LACK wall shelves. The project that has taken the most effort is no doubt the SunPorch, of which no photos exist yet because it's not done and I never got around to taking in-progress pictures. I've also mounted satellite dishes and drilled through walls and ceilings to run cable; rewired and installed various light fixtures and bathroom fans; and of course the Frankensteined mess that is my home network / media stack.
