Week 5
Day 1 (Wednesday): 2.5 miles, treadmill, around 30 minutes
Day 2 (Friday): Supposed to do 2 miles, did 1.5 on treadmill in around 20 minutes until I had to stop due to shin pain.
Race Day (Sunday): I completed the Santa Cruz Jingle Bell Rock 5K (3.1 miles) in 37:23, for an average pace of around 11:40/mile. It’s the fastest I’ve done the 5K distance, whether on treadmill or trail. I am very pleased.

10K training started yesterday. Update to follow.

The Sounds was the first act on stage at around 7:30, and here is one of the songs they performed (“Dorchester Hotel”):

I said at the time that The Sounds reminded me of vintage Blondie.

Next up was Paramore, and wow did they put on a great show! One of the songs they performed (“Ignorance”) is off their upcoming album Brand New Eyes:

The main attraction of the night, of course, was No Doubt, and some very kind souls have posted a complete setlist from the show, which allowed me to find YouTube clips of almost song they performed. No Doubt started off with “Spiderwebs”; you might recognize the instrumental piece played as they came on stage.

Maureen Dowd’s interview with Tina Fey (featuring photography by Annie Leibovitz) in this month’s Vanity Fair, titled What Tina Fey Wants is an excellent read for Fans of Fey:

Tina Fey has rules. They’ve guided the 38-year-old writer-comedian through marriage, motherhood, and a career that went into hyperdrive this fall, when her Sarah Palin impression convulsed the nation, boosting the ratings of both Saturday Night Live and her own NBC show, 30 Rock. Backstage at S.N.L., where “Palin” met Palin, and at the home Fey shares with her husband and daughter, the author reports on how a tweezer, cream rinse, a diet, and a Teutonic will transformed a mousy brain into a brainy glamour-puss.
