Wii Fit and treadmilling are getting me in shape

I remember reading something about it taking 21 days for an activity to become a habit. I'm working on that. I do 30 minutes of Wii Fit yoga almost every day, as a warm-up for a treadmill session. I do 30 minutes of Wii Fit yoga almost every day, as a warm-up for a treadmill session. Weeknights, I'll do 90 minutes on the treadmill while watching Countdown and Rachel Maddow (without commercials, each show is around 45 minutes). I'll usually do a shorter session on weekends. The treadmill is usually set at 5% incline and 3.5 to 4 MPH, though I vary the speed now and then.

Olbermann the New Ed Murrow? — The Nation, 2007-09-20

The launch of Katie Couric a year ago as the anchor of the CBS Evening News was hailed by CBS as the biggest thing in news since, well, the invention of denture fixative commercials. It was also the biggest flop. The CBS Evening News Without Dan Rather or Bob Schieffer had its lowest ratings since Nielsen began tracking evening news shows in 1987.

In short, what CBS (and all the others) need is a new Ed Murrow. Good news! There’s already one out there on the launchpad who has demonstrated his qualifications. I’m talking about Keith Olbermann of MSNBC. He has the journalistic chops and the mind, heart, instincts and courage.

We TiVo and watch Countdown every night. The chiron and graphics are a little obnoxious at first, but they fade into the background very quickly.

I’m not old enough to remember Edward R. Murrow, but based on what I’ve read, clips of Murrow’s broadcasts and of course Good Night, and Good Luck I would have to say that Olbermann is Murrow’s obvious successor.

Every four years, just in time to distract us from the increasingly ugly presidential campaign, we are treated to a tremendous display of pure athleticism. And a ton of lame commercials and smarmy bio-features, thanks to perennial Olympic broadcaster NBC. For this, we have DirecTiVo! I spent most of Saturday crawling around in the crawlspace (that’s why it’s called a crawlspace, I guess–if I could stand up without being impaled on roofing nails, it’d be an attic) installing the second coax run from the dish to enable the ultra-cool dual-tuner feature on the new box. This lets us watch one channel and somehow record two others. I don’t get it, but it works.

Some useful links:

Next up is upgrading the recording capacity; 35 hours gets used up very quickly when there are five channels (six if you count Telemundo, seven if you count the HD broadcast) all going more or less simultaneously.
